Eric Tunney- 1964- 2010 Rest in Peace, my friend
|
|
| |
Eric was like the George Clooney of the circuit. He was the guy everybody loved. Even in the cynical comedic world, it was hard to find someone who would criticize Eric. He was idolized. He was original, funny, charming, good looking and vulnerable. Eric’s insecurities maybe made him fragile but they were also his best qualities. What made Eric so handsome was the fact that it seemed like he never looked in a mirror. There are guys walking around every city with one tenth of Eric’s charms and good looks acting like they are god’s gift to the planet. Eric treated everyone with kindness and respect. He probably didn’t know how much he was loved by all of us but hopefully, he knows now. Eric, you better be telling those Hitler jokes somewhere to an appreciative crowd. Love Judy

The best hair care product EVER
|
|
| |
Dear Diary..I never thought this would happen to me…I never thought I would endorse a hair care product. But this latest hair care invention has CHANGED MY LIFE.
The Instyler.( I know - sounds like a Matt Damon movie) is life altering. I saw the commercial on tv one day and thought nothing of it but then a friend emailed me and SWORE by it so I just knew I had to buy it. The Instyler is about 120 bucks (available at Walmart..hurry run, there were only three left when I purchasd mine) and honestly, it’s worth every penny. Since my purchase, I told two friends and so on and so on. Everyone is thrilled. The Instyler is basically a curling iron but the barrel part rolls. It actually works best when your hair is dry. I was a blowdryer/ flat iron woman myself. Forty five minutes with the blow dryer followed by 15 minutes with the flat iron. ( I have the trifecta of bad hair, the triple threat, –the axis of evil. My hair is thick, wavy AND curly) But now with the Instyler, I’ve cut that time in half. In fact, with so much spare time on my hands, I’ve dedicated my life to more important things like curing cancer and installing wells in small African villages.

Pelosi tells the boys to man up
|
|
| |
If you read the New York Times, you'd know that the real hero of health reform was a girl. I know this is a hard concept for you fellows to grasp. When Obama, Reid, Emanuel & everybody else was ready to throw in the towel & opt for what Pelosi called "Kiddie Care," the Speaker of the House told the boys to man up & move forward. Then she showed them how to do it.
Today when she was speaking on the steps of the Cannon House Office Building the very people whom Ms. Pelosi had worked so hard to help were heckling her. What did she do? She locked arms with the other victims of the mob & marched to the Capitol to make sure the stupid people whom Republican Members of Congress had worked into an insane lather will get affordable health care.
President Obama? He certainly did his part. His speech yesterday to the Democratic Caucus was one for the history books. He called 92 MOCs. (But who's counting?) And he gave Mr. Teevee, Bart Stupak, a way out (perhaps arranged by Pelosi) of the self-righteous corner into which Stupak had painted himself.
Bart Stupak may not listen to girls -- like the nuns, the Democratic women in the House & the Speaker herself -- but these women sure have my respect. Especially this week, when they stood up to bishops, Republicans, and other riffraff.
A hundred years of hope, finally realized, for better or for worse, is Nancy Pelosi's legacy. Health care has always been women's work. Today's healthcare bill is women's work, too.

can't get enough of the Olympic articles..sniff sniff

BILL PLASCHKE- LA TIMES February 28, 2010Bill Plaschke
Canada is a Winter Games wonderland There was a lot to like about these Olympics, but nothing more than the Canadian people
From Vancouver, Canada — It was after midnight, a week ago, the U.S. had earlier defeated Canada in a preliminary-round Olympic hockey game, the emptying streets wet, the mood soggy. I was returning from our nightly visit to the giant four-pronged Olympic flame with my 15-year-old daughter, Mary Clare, who was wearing an American flag like a cape, and a smile like a necklace. It was one of the first times she wore something that didn't represent her high school or favorite sports team. It was one of the first moments she may have realized the pride in being an American. And here came the Canadian. He appeared to be in his late 20s. He was wearing a scruffy beard, a pale bandanna, and wild stare. He jumped in front of Mary Clare on a darkened patch of sidewalk and started shouting. "Eh, eh, eh!" he said. She froze. Her brave and resourceful father also, um, froze. At which point the man stuck out his hand. "High-five, eh?" he said. "Great game, America. You won fair and square. We'll see you in the finals." Before disappearing into the shadows, the man looked back at me with what appeared to be a wink. "I know what you were thinking, but that's not how we do it here," he said. "We're Canadian." I thought of this incident later when, spying on Mary Clare's Facebook page as all brave and resourceful fathers should do, I came across a line about her Olympic experience that stunned me in its simple honesty. "I love Canada," she wrote. Come to think of it, so do I. Forget the medal counts and podium ceremonies, there was only one true winner here, the beauty and breadth of its land equaled only by the daily kindness of its people. Canada, you were gold. For two weeks, you lived your anthem, your hearts glowing like that moon that hung nightly over the Burrard Inlet, a light on the front porch of a house that felt like a home. There was tragedy here in the death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, embarrassment in the opening ceremony torch malfunction, carelessness in the ice resurfacing machines that broke during long-track speedskating, crassness of a gold-medal- winning Canadian women's hockey team celebrating on the ice with booze and cigars. None of it was the fault of the Canadian people, who turned the Winter Olympics into the Warmer Olympics, filling the city with friendliness, filling the stands with good cheer even while booing the USA hockey team, sharing not only their streets but themselves. There were women giving me directions as if they were my mother reading me a recipe, hand on my back, walking me toward my destination -- "OK, now, you go down here a little ways, pass that cute little syrup store, make a left at that fountain." There were guys who, standing in one of the endless lines here that the Canadians accepted with such good humor, would ask me if I'm having fun, and did I need anything, and oh, here, let me explain curling, everyone a cousin, every gathering a family reunion. Then there was the Canadian who literally gave me the shirt off her back. She was a manager at a local bakery that properly boasted of Vancouver's best cheesecake. After a couple of memorable visits there, I wondered whether they sold T-shirts featuring the name of the shop. The manager went into the back and came out with red shirt that looked similar to the one she had been wearing. Take it, she said. No charge. Thanks for coming. Finally, there was the ski lift. I may be the first person in Winter Olympics history to admit this, but I'm terrified of ski lifts. A horrible experience on a long and rickety Alaskan lift 25 years ago made me swear to avoid them forever. Imagine, then, my nerves upon learning that in order to cover the Alpine ski events here, I had to take a ski lift up to the media center. Sitting next to unsuspecting colleague Chris Dufresne, I held my breath going up and survived. The problem was coming down. It was late, and there was nobody working the lift. Just riding that sucker was hard enough without figuring out how to climb aboard and pull down the bar and actually get off. That is when she appeared, a local volunteer returning to her family. As she prepared to board the lift, I shouted for her to wait for me. She did. I told her my problem. She understood. She helped me board with my giant briefcase, asked about my family as we rode down through the tops of the trees, then carefully instructed me how to climb off at the bottom without falling on my face, drawing a few deserving snickers from some nearby teenagers. "Hey, he doesn't do this much, OK?" she said, scolding. Canada, you were gold.

Julie/ Julia Is there anything that Merryl can’t do? 8 out of 10 Boeuf Bourguingnons
Knowing – Nick Cage – I didn’t hate this as much as the critics did. 7 out of 10. Sadly, it was a great movie up until the last quarter. Great concept.. Kid predicts the end of the world with a series of numbers. Unfortunately, this movie suffered the same fate as James Cameron’s ‘The Abyss.’ Here’s something for Nick Cage’s character (playing an MIT mathematician??? Puhlease)

The Oscars- The sweetest revenge
|
|
| |
Sunday Mar 7 2010
Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were very funny but it’s always so awkward when the camera cuts to the celebrities for their reactions. The audience is filled with actors. They’re either too nervous, too self-involved, too stupid to get the joke or too botoxed to react to it even if they did get it
Tina Fey bit with Robert Downey Jr. Hilarious
Katherine Bigelow- what a great way to get back at ex. Look fabulous ( who could believe that she’s 58). Date a much younger man (36 year Mark Boal who scored his own oscar for writing The Hurt Locker) Then take best pic and best director from Avatar- while making history. That’s a wrap.

'Thank you Canada' says NBC's Olympic anchorman Brian Williams
|
|
| |
Leaving behind a thank-you note Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor
After tonight's broadcast and after looting our hotel mini-bars, we're going to try to brave the blizzard and fly east to home and hearth, and to do laundry well into next week. Before we leave this thoroughly polite country, the polite thing to do is leave behind a thank-you note.
Thank you, Canada:
For being such good hosts.
For your unfailing courtesy.
For your (mostly) beautiful weather.
For scheduling no more than 60 percent of your float plane departures at the exact moment when I was trying to say something on television.
For not seeming to mind the occasional (or constant) good-natured mimicry of your accents. For your unique TV commercials -- for companies like Tim Hortons -- which made us laugh and cry.
For securing this massive event without choking security, and without publicly displaying a single automatic weapon.
For having the best garment design and logo-wear of the games -- you've made wearing your name a cool thing to do.
For the sportsmanship we saw most of your athletes display.
For not honking your horns. I didn't hear one car horn in 15 days -- which also means none of my fellow New Yorkers rented cars while visiting.
For making us aware of how many of you have been watching NBC all these years.
For having the good taste to have an anchorman named Brian Williams on your CTV network, who turns out to be such a nice guy.
For the body scans at the airport which make pat-downs and cavity searches unnecessary.
For designing those really cool LED Olympic rings in the harbor, which turned to gold when your athletes won one.
For always saying nice things about the United States...when you know we're listening.
For sharing Joannie Rochette with us.
For reminding some of us we used to be a more civil society. Mostly, for welcoming the world with such ease and making lasting friends with all of us.

More depressing than the Olympics being over ( Tuesday Mar 2 2010)
Okay, even more depressing than the Olympics being over…Jake picking Vienna over Tenley. How heartbroken was Tenley? He might as well have clubbed a baby seal on tv. Awful. If Jake’s dad cried before, you can only imagine how much he’s crying now. The two sister- in –laws are probably on suicide watch. The fact that Jake picked Vienna says so much about Jake. He’s insecure, he’s not very bright and he’s a horn dog. Oh well, at least, we won’t need to look at that smug Tom Cruise smile anymore. By the way, that WAS nice of Jake’s family to “ shut down their lives” for him and come first class, all expenses paid to St. Lucia. Regular saints they are. Last night, Jake introduced Vienna as ‘ my baby’ Vienna has already had that bizarre relationship going on with her father. So now she’s just substituted one for the other. Vienna said she once eloped with a minister’s son. Maybe it was really the minister??? Dum dum dum

It’s Over-So Sad

It’s Over-So Sad ( Monday March 1 2010)
Okay, grief councilors should have been standing by. How sad is it that the winter Olympics are over? They were the best games ever. When CTV showed the Olympic montage this morning- I have to admit I was pretty choked up. The only fly in the ointment - the closing ceremonies- sheesh- what was that? Where the hell was Jim Carey, David Foster Cirque du Soleil and Celine Dion? Did they want more money?? If that’s what it came down to, then shame on them! Hats off to the likes of Neil Young, Alanis, Avril, Nickleback, etc for not being too “busy” to answer their celebrity call of duty.
The Olympic games, of course, were capped off by Team Canada’s victory over the US in men’s hockey 3-2 .I was nervous eating and drinking the whole time…an emotional wreck but the pain and suffering was well worth it. How great was it watching all sorts of people across our great land screaming, hugging, singing and breathing a massive collective sigh of relief. One more time- Go Canada Go!!! Sniff sniff

I never thought I would care about curling

I never thought I would care about curling ( Sat February 27 2010)
It’s funny how you can totally not care about a sport until it looks like you might get a gold medal in it? I was running around the house like a chicken with my head cut off..what time is the curling on at? Then I was devastated when our women’s curling team lost the gold to Team Sweden. Isn’t it bizarre…curlers really don’t seem that athletic yet they seem to be curling constantly throughout the Olympics. I mean 24-7. Everytime, I turned on the tv, there was one of the Canadian teams playing another 8 hour game. Maybe our men’s team will bring home the gold. But first they have to get by the Norwegians in their pajama pants. How cute is the Norwegian skip? They call our skip – Kevin Martin- writers call him the Michael Jordan of curling. C’mon-those cold dead blue eyes-he’s a dead ringer for the white supremist leader from Oz.

No- Thank YOU -Virtue and Moir

Sunday February 21st 2010
A lot of Canadians athletes said they were going to do it, tried to do it but at the end of the day..when the pressure couldn’t be any higher ( One day after Super Sunday turned into Bloody Sunday with Del Bosco’s bronze medal ski cross crash and Team Canada’s loss to Team Ryan Miller ) Virtue and Moir pulled off a flawless gold medal performance. The first ice dance medal earned by a North American couple. I’ll admit it I was a blubbering mess when Moir mouthed the words to Virtue ‘Thank you so much.’ Waaaaaahhhh.

Canada's First Gold

Canada’s First Olympic Gold Medal- Victory never tasted so sweet ( Monday Feb 15th 2010)
Yes, today I was going to blog about the Bachelor but alas something has taken over…good old Canadian pride. I can’t stop watching the Olympics. From the opening ceremonies ( including a hydraulic that couldn’t light the stadium cauldron..hey, we can only build a space arm) to Wayne Gretzky’s trek through town on the back of a pick up ( so Canadian) Only in Canada, would there be so little security. Good old Canadian boy Wayne smiled ( or tried to smile with ala Janet Jones botox injections) at well wishing protesters and junkies with needles sticking out of their arms ran beside the truck.
And how about that first gold medal win??? On home soil! Woohoo. Alexandre Bilodeau moguls triumph was only made sweeter as Australia’s Dale Begg Smith ( I can’t believe this guy use to be Canadian!) psychotically glared on. I maturely screamed at my tv set haha.

The Bachelor OMG

The Bachelor- OMG!! (Monday Feb 15th 2010)
OMG That’s really all I can say about this episode. The final two are Tenley and Vienna Sausage? Are they kidding me? All I can think of was that Tenley was THE girl from the beginning and producers wanted..no wait a second, NEEDED to make the show interesting(due to Jake’s flat liner personality) so they created a storyline that involved Vienna going to the final two.. What’s interesting about Jake is that he can seem so innocently in love with all three girls and then so cold when dismissing them. Poor Gia Pet was crushed. Oh well, Gia Pet can seek solace in the knowledge that she is the perfect candidate for The Bachelorette. Let’s face it Who else are they going to pick- Vienna Sausage? Uh no. How about psycho-my-mom-wants-grand babies? Or how about Miss I’m-sleeping-with-the-no name reality show director and I don’t think that’s anybody’s business. True, it wouldn’t normally be anybody’s business except the fact that you’re on a show about a guy looking for a wife! Jakes cheesiest line so far ‘I’ve fallen in love with three women.’ Translated.. “I want to boink all three of you.” Finally, how about Ali’s desperate attempt to get back into Jake’s life, “ Nobody told me that we were going to St. Lucia!”

The Bachelor Goodbye already
|
|
| |
The Bachelor – Good Bye Already ( Monday Feb 8th 2010)
Place your bets boys and girls: Vienna, Ali, Tenley or Gia Pet?
Ali, what’s up with the dramatic goodbye? Ali kept saying she was torn between her job and Jake. She’s 25!!! I doubt she’s got to rush back to Mount Sinai to do a heart transplant. Maybe, she’s left the cappuccino machine on at Starbucks?
What gene pool did Gia Pet jump out of? Clearly she is not related to that family. Mom looks like Morticia and Bro has the cast members of the Sopranos living in those eyebrows.
And how about Vienna’s creepy dad? Vienna tells dad about how hard she is falling for Jake. To which, creepy dad immediately whispers, ‘I really missed you!’ Eeek.
So who is the girl probably best suited for Jake? Probably Tenley. She’s sweet and naïve. Translated means she’ll probably idolize Jake as he drones on for the 800th time how perfect he is and hey, did he mention that he’s a pilot? Is it just me or does she seem a tad fragile? Her family kept whispering, ‘ Well Jake, you know how Tenley is still recovering from her ex-husband?.’ Who’s her ex-husband Charlie Sheen? Yes, Tenley is probably best suited for Jake but poor thing, is also probably one step away from a straight jacket.
