March 23, 2010 - 09:34 AM Pelosi tells the boys to man up -
If you read the New York Times, you'd know that the real hero of health reform was a girl. I know this is a hard concept for you fellows to grasp. When Obama, Reid, Emanuel & everybody else was ready to throw in the towel & opt for what Pelosi called "Kiddie Care," the Speaker of the House told the boys to man up & move forward. Then she showed them how to do it.
Today when she was speaking on the steps of the Cannon House Office Building the very people whom Ms. Pelosi had worked so hard to help were heckling her. What did she do? She locked arms with the other victims of the mob & marched to the Capitol to make sure the stupid people whom Republican Members of Congress had worked into an insane lather will get affordable health care.
President Obama? He certainly did his part. His speech yesterday to the Democratic Caucus was one for the history books. He called 92 MOCs. (But who's counting?) And he gave Mr. Teevee, Bart Stupak, a way out (perhaps arranged by Pelosi) of the self-righteous corner into which Stupak had painted himself.
Bart Stupak may not listen to girls -- like the nuns, the Democratic women in the House & the Speaker herself -- but these women sure have my respect. Especially this week, when they stood up to bishops, Republicans, and other riffraff.
A hundred years of hope, finally realized, for better or for worse, is Nancy Pelosi's legacy. Health care has always been women's work. Today's healthcare bill is women's work, too.
